Koyasan

After much training, lol, we arrived at our home for one night, the Ekoin Temple in Koyasan.

The main hall, extraordinary.
Our humble abode, also extraordinary.
The tranquil gardens outside of our room.
Walking about, many touristy shops. There are apparently 117 temples in the area.
The nature was quite welcoming.......
Danjo Guran temple.
Waiting for us back in our was this completely vegetarian dinner. So good.
After dinner we went on a night tour of Okuno-in. There are over 200,000 tombstones and commemerative monuments along the 2 km path. These monuments here represent the five elements, earth, water, fire, air, and space.
Another very humbling experience.
The next morning we witnessed the monk's morning prayers in the main hall, as well as this fire ceremony.
When we got back to our room, a very healthy vegetarian breakfast was awaiting us.
After that, we were on our own to explore.......
Some of the giant cedars were over 900 years old, reminds me of Vancouver Island.
......and a lot of them are numbered and protected.
Not enough time to soak it all in, truly a gift to be able to be here......
Ritsue beside the monument for the people of Hiroshima.
The morning food offering to the Buddhist monk Koho Daishi. ((google his name to find the story and the history (dating back to 774 AD))
Back on the bus!
Back on the cable car, going down. (wait, there's only 1 cable holding this thing back??)
Only the naked eye gets how steep this decent really is.
....back on the trains, farewell to Koyasan.
The not random, or maybe overactive imagination, ghostly figures in the window, pic.
In less than one day, right into the madness of Osaka........
