Around the Island

Different country, different license plate. (our rental)
....off we go!
Hints of the United States wherever we went in Okinawa.

Cruising through Chatan, we saw many fenced off areas like this one, which is part of the U.S. Marine Corps base Camp Lester.
......and then we saw Kadena Air Base. I was quite surprised to see the enormity of it all.
We stopped at Kadena Roadside Station for a better look from the observation deck.
Can't help but think what this base must have been like during war times.

Spent quite a bit of the morning here. Watched a few planes taking off and landing.

Hard to see in this pic, this one about to take off has the U.S. Navy logo.
Uhhh, yes, the we stopped at a rest area and I saw this floaty thing stuck between the rocks, pic.
It was just a roadside pull-out, but very beachy all the same.
The stare down between me and the hermit crab pic.
Travelling towards Bise, I noticed a lot of these ports.......
....which may or may not be a contentious issue. The sand is being removed from the area to build a new base for the U.S. in Okinawa.
Our goal was to go for a walk among the Fukugi trees in Bise.
This guy was such a hard worker, and not afraid of tourists, either.
Where'd he go?
The village along the walk has seen better days, curious.....
Past the pathways was beach overlooking the East China Sea.
On this day, the shade of the trees was blessed.
The, my view from the boy's washroom at our food and beverage oasis, pic.
It was a better view from the window, trust me. It was hot, but I was cold towards the humidity.
The right view.....
There's a building in their somewhere.
Well, if your in the neigbourhood, you may as well go across the Kouri Bridge.
Made it back in time for sunset at our hotel.
Just a hallway of our hotel pic.
Okay, I trust Ritsue and her mother when we go out for food. Don't judge, I ate the beef tongue.
Ritsue was a bar-b-que expert, overall, three thumbs up.
One more day in Okinawa to go, let's leave it with, everything in Japan is more colorful and interesting, including the cleaning products, pic.
