Have a foggy memory of being at Peace Arch park when I was a youngster living in White Rock. Looks so peaceful in this pic...........
.....but our reality was 2 hours to cross the border into the U.S. on this Victoria Day long week-end.
After we crossed it was barely an hour to get onto the ferry to.......
......wait for it.......(a long 5 minute ride)....
..... Guemes Island.
Ritsue has met her match?......ya, a little quieter over here compared to the busyness of Vancouver.
This songbird announced our arrival.
First stop was the General store, a whopping 20 seconds from the ferry. I was feeling a burger and when I saw the ancient grain burger on the menu, I new I needed a burger with an ancient grain bun. Turns out, well, you can guess. (I put on a brave face and ate my "healthy choice.")
The view and the brew more than made up for it, lol.
.....lovin the driving down the roads of Guemes and not seeing a soul. (The year round population is under 1000)
....a much needed break from movie jail.
.....yes, that's seaweed, and apparently you can eat it according to the seaweed expert!
......how many people get to see this outside their front window......
......lot's of shoreline to explore....
......I remember driving by this the night before way up in the trees, was wondering what was down there.
The mandatory, we're the only people in the world, pic.
Probably the only unpleasant sight of the week-end. There were balls of caterpillars in a lot of the surrounding trees.
It was a 1.8 kilometer stroll from the General Store to our place, all along the beach.
Peachy beachy..
Our home for 2 nights, para-para-paradise.
Day 2 we headed onto the mainland, first stop.....
Deception Pass......
Whoa, look at those kayakers way down there.
We climbed down below for a different vista.
Spotted a seal monkeying around down there.
In the afternoon we headed to small town America, Anacortes. Sleepy this time of year, but in another week when the Memorial Day week-end approaches it will be full on tourists for the summer.
Wish you were beer at the Rockfish Grill!
This time I made sure the mushroom Swiss burger had some beef! Delicious!
Small town patriotism.
Sun setting on our little getaway.
You dream of owning a place like this, but the real estate is as pricey as Vancouver, and in U.S. dollars!
Someone is very proud of herself......
....and she should be, made her first campfire, woot! woot!
Hot stuff!
Uncle Buck seemed sorry to see us leave......
The mandatory Anacortes downtown selfie......
We'll be back!?
