On this night we took over a church on Main St. in Vancouver. We currently have 10 filming days left on the MGM+ mini series Earth Abides, based on the 1949 book by George R. Stewart. There will be 6 episodes in total. It stars Alexander Ludwig and Jessica Frances Dukes. As well as co-captain, I'm also the director driver.
4 a.m. at the parking lot outside of B.C. Place. We finished Good Doctor on April 5th, and started Earth Abides on April 8th.
This show reminds me of a feature film. We are on the road a lot, on this day we went to a farm out in Langley.
My temporary cast ride, a story for another blog, lol. Less than one hour from downtown Vancouver, what a lovely change.
You can't do an post-pandemic series without food options.......
So tranquil........
....but not a real white cow, that's cruel......
The show mascots. These little beauties belong to the genny op.
Loading up the "hero" car.
On this day we were filming at Fort Langley Airport. Hard to tell to the uneducated eye, but this is the end of the road, no crossing the Golden Gate Bridge here, now that the pandemic is in full swing.
On this day, and many others, we used drones for filming the overhead shots.
We spent this fraturday (sadly, many on this show) at the Canadian Tire in Langley. Post pandemic folks gotta shop......
....back to the church, a shot taken in front of Burgoo restaurant, one I have driven by many times and have always wanted to try.
This is the "hero' house. It's on a cul-de-sac in Port Moody. We will spend over 25 days and nights here. Two families were relocated for the filming. We take over the neighborhood when we are there and I think we have worn out our welcome with a lot of the residents. (hang in there, folks, we are only there for 4 more days.)
Meanwhile back at the Bridge Studios, Saint Bonaventure Hospital is fading away.
Our first visit to Deer Lake this year.
Topsy-turvey, I'm sporting a Hiroshima Carp hat, and Ritsue is wearing a mighty Teamsters 155 cap.
First turtle sighting of 2024.
Early start by Canada Place.
...and later a misty afternoon looking over Port Moody.
Ha! Got a another pic of the Rambo statue in Hope, B.C. We went way beyond Hope to scout out locations that may or may not resemble Nevada and Northern California roads and terrain.
This side road outside of Ashcroft was given a lot of consideration.
So much so that the producers and department heads took a long look. (In the end, we have run out of time, and the 636 kilometer trip was in vain.
What are those cows doing in what was to be our circus/base camp location?
Those cows were all over the road......
.......and that is not mud, yuk!
What don't you want to happen at 1 a.m. when you're leaving Port Moody and you just want to go home?
You don't want your front tire to kick up that water main cover and have your rear tire hit it and flatten the tire and bend the rim. (Thank goodness I had mighty Teamsters behind me who helped me put the spare tire on.) In the end the City of Port Moody said they don't cover road hazards, but they did send my info to the road contractors. A shout out to Rino and Sandpiper Contracting for taking care of the damage!
