There she is! My 3 week hiatus got turned in to 2. (I'll explain later) We decided to get away, even if it was just a short 20 minute ferry to Bowen Island. (We were self contained in an Airbnb cottage).
A couple of days before that we went gift exploring at the wild, wild world of the Bass Pro shop in Tsawwassen.
It's a tourists from Burnaby attraction, that's for sure.
I decided on Bowen Island, mostly because I procrastinated my planning, and because it was so close.
The weather was great on the day we left, not bad for the end of December.
The uninteresting "hey look, that's our car", pic.
....and when you get only one adventure due to covid, it's over the top selfie time! This one was close to the ferry terminal at Snug Cove.
To the untrained eye, we've moved on to Cates Bay beach.
That made us very thirsty, so we whet our whistles at the Bowen Island pub.
The next day we hiked up above our cabin. A lovely trek in the woods.......
...but before that we hiked down to Crayola beach.......
....oh man, these pics are out of order. Let's go back to the woodsy hike, the reward at the end was this view of Keats Island and Gibsons.
......good-bye to the woodsy part......
.......and down to the night life of the one block street in Bowen Island, that was mostly deserted.
Looking chill and chilly at Roger Curtis beach.
....this turned out to be our favourite, Bowen Bay beach.
The on the ferry selfie.......
.....the look at me contemplating pic........
.....and finally, the say good-bye to Bowen Island selfie.
We had our fingers crossed that we would get at least one good day of weather. Turns out it was day one on the way over, lol.
......a nice shot of the ferry at Snug Cove.......
.......just being near the ocean was therapeutic enough......
The weather was still cooperating at Cates beach.
Hey!, put that phone down, you're missing it, lol.
.......I can still see you.......
Bowen Bay was very close to our cabin.
......uhhhhhhhhh, hmnnnnnnn, Crayola beach?.......
The hike above our cabin lead us to this mini Stonehenge......
Staring out onto the open Pacific ocean, I was getting prespective.....
........the other side of the world?......
We managed to avoid the rain until we got to Cape Roger Curtis.
The tide was a little high, may not be able to get to the lighthouse today.......
.....but I went for it anyway! (Heck, I only fell once on the slippery rocks, and not even into the ocean!)
If I didn't go I would of missed this survey marker by the lighthouse.
A quick stop at Bowen Bay on our way back to our Airbnb.
I would drive back to Bowen Island just to have the black rockfish bites at Doc Morgan's pub. Yes, they were that good.
The chicken karaage was almost as good! (The rainbow kale Caesar salad was quite tasty as well.)
When with nature, the only choice..........
Night time, bring out the crib board. (The first game came down to the wire, but in the end I won 121 to 120, ouch!
Ritsue beat me on the next one, though.
The next day we went beach and bay exploring, but it was tough with the high tide, and all the driftwood and deadwood. This was Arbutus Bay.
Seymour Bay was no better.
Careful!
At Seymour Bay, on the opposite side of the island where we were staying at, you got a reminder of reality, this view of Vancouver.
One last look around.......
Good-bye Bowen Bay, until next time. (Ya, I think so......)
Meanwhile, back on the mainland, bro Skip had his own crib thang going on. ((psssst, that's him on the cards, lol) (not the joker...))
Outstanding! Fellow cast driver Jim really lit it up at Christmas with his massive Hot Wheels collection!
Bonus pic of yours truly at Bowen Island, sent by Ritsue.
Hey, that's our car, going home pic.
Arriving back at Horseshoe Bay.
My goodness, bro Skip and Doris certainly had a feast on New Year's.
Well, I managed to stay up to midnight on New Year's eve. (about 5 minutes, lol) Here's to 2021!
